Unusable pesticides present a threat to the environment and should be disposed of properly. The Spruce Up South Dakota program is offering individuals an opportunity to get rid of empty pesticide containers and outdated or otherwise unusable pesticides.

The Department of Agriculture conducts annual Pesticide Container Collections in late summer and Unusable Pesticide Collections in the fall. Empty pesticide containers are collected and recycled. Unusable and banned pesticides are collected and disposed of properly.

The Department of Agriculture will assist in providing interim storage of pesticides collected under Spruce Up South Dakota. The pesticides will be properly disposed of when the department conducts its annual collection.

Pre-registration of unusable pesticides is required.
